Oh Yes! member Ideal Heating receives Government funding to accelerate low carbon transition
Oh Yes! Net Zero member Ideal Heating has received significant Government funding to accelerate the production of heat pumps in Hull.
Ideal Heating is the UK market leader in both the domestic and commercial heating sectors.
The business, headquartered in Hull since its foundation in 1906, manufacturers more than 400,000 gas boilers every year at its head site in the city.
With the future of home heating set to change drastically over the next decade, Ideal Heating has embarked on a major decarbonisation of its product portfolio.
The business has now received a share of £5.2m of Government funding to accelerate the production of heat pumps in Hull.
Ideal Heating has committed a further £6.8m as part of the low carbon drive, taking the total investment in heat pump production to more than £12m.
The Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh, visited Ideal’s head site at National Avenue in Hull, and the company’s training centre in Hessle, East Yorkshire, to coincide with the announcement.
Ideal Heating is a long-standing member and supporter of Oh Yes! Net Zero, with the company’s Chief Operations Officer Jason Speedy recently joining a panel at Hull City Council’s Business Breakfast to discuss Ideal’s progress to net zero.
Our Engagement Manager, Melissa Rackham, said: “The funding announcement from Government is of huge significance not just for Ideal Heating, but for our city as a whole.
“It will support one of Hull’s largest employers, and biggest companies, to accelerate the transition of its products to low carbon solutions. That in turn will safeguard jobs and prepare Ideal for the next phase of its growth.
“Ideal Heating’s story is a fascinating one, and is a perfect example of a business which has responded to a huge net zero challenge with positive action and confidence.”
The funding for Ideal Heating will enable the business to increase heat pump production in Hull to 115,000 units per year by 2030.
Ideal Heating is part way through a broader £60m investment programme at its Hull site, spanning production, distribution, and research and development capabilities, with a specific focus on heat pumps.
The business employs around 1,000 people, the vast majority of them in Hull, in roles ranging from production, distribution, research, development, IT and engineering.
In August 2023, Ideal Heating launched its first heat pump production line in Hull and has since invested further in this facility.
Construction is also well advanced on a £19m UK Technology Centre at the Hull site, which will serve as a testbed for product innovation, including heat pump technologies.
